Poor Stage Organization

At a local music festival, one of the stage managers interrupted a band's
set in order to make an announcement.

This can be heard at http://www.kludgeaudio.com/downloads/faerie.mp3.

I found this absolutely hilarious, just because of the total disorganization
here and the huge amount of the audience's time being wasted. So far, most
of the other folks who have heard this, though, have not been as amused as
I have been.

it didn't surprise me that a parking announcement would need to be
made. i found the "fairy" stuff hilarious, though. i wish there was
more of it...something like:

"Gandor the magic elf can't get his wings through the two SUV's, and
Glindella the fairy princess is stuck under a Toyota Tacoma. So would
the owner of a red Tacoma please roll your car forward so Glindella can
get out from under your truck tire".

what was all the magic fairy stuff about?

It's surprising he didn't say "If you don't move your car, it will
be towed, and that's spelled T-O-A-D. So if you don't want to drive a
frog home,..."

I hear a couple of band members playing around in the background,
it seems they're wanting to get on with it.

Not really. I had the power pulled mid set mid song on a band at a town
festival I once did. then these goons started removing the stage
literally while the band was still in shock. This band came to NJ from
MA at my request & played for free. They were running 30 min. over
because the organizers added a dance troop on the other side of the
site at mid day that refused to go on if the bands continued. That
pushed out my 5 bands.
Never again!

I just spent 3 days working at the Winnipeg Folk Fest, so this sort of
thing doesn't hugely surprise me. I think that maybe by "faeries" they
are refering to volunteers that are helping with the festival.

In Winnipeg, the people who drive the golf carts around helping move the
artists and their gear are officially call "Schleppers". It is pretty
weird, because you find yourself on the headset saying things like,
"This is Big Blue Stem to Schleppers..."

I like that. Most festivals I work have "gophers" that do the schlepping,
and "stage ninjas" that move things on and off stage. I like an official
schlepping team, though.
