anyone else care to comment--similar problems with Mackies

purchased new 1642vlzpro 2001. serviced twice under warranty for "known
problems with ribbon cables". to no avail, right channel continues to
cut out periodically. no longer under warranty--next step is to throw
this piece of junk off a cliff! no more Mackie products for me...

That's weird. Clearly it _wasn't_ the usual known problem with the ribbon
cables, then.

The problem with commonly-found problems is that you get used to seeing
them, and when you _do_ get something unusual, you miss it because you
think it's just another one of the same.

Call Mackie and explain. Their customer service is pretty good.

even the best boards made develop problems at times. when they do you just
go in, trace down the problem, and fix it.

a reputable service tech should offer a 30 to 90 day warranty.

It was around 2002 that Mackie figured out what the real problem with
the ribbon cables was. While they were able to make good on the
warranty (and even generously extended that warranty most of the
time), the board connectors needed to be replaced in order to really
fix the problem, and I'm not sure that they ever did that.

As far as the warranty is concerned, I wouldn't look at the calendar,
I'd call Tech Support, tell them that your mixer has been returned for
warranty repair twice and never really been fixed, and ask them to do
something for you. They no longer do service in-house so they may not
be as generous as before, but they're still interested in keeping
customers gruntled.

If you were to buy a new Mackie, it wouldn't have that problem.

I am sorry to read about your troubles with your Mackie, and I think I
hear too much about lousy ribbon cables, and not always from Mackie. A
ribbon cable was the likely culprit in a nonfunctional Behringer
DEQ2496, while another five of those worked perfectly out of the box and
continue to do so, some under heavy use. My own Mackie 1202 refuses to
die, and I am not particularly kind to it.

If you're looking for a good cliff off of which to throw your Mackie,
I'll pay shipping to my house.
