I am working on my dads old sony laptop (FX190), and replaced the thermal pad with artic silver 5 while I had it opened up. After doing this, I noticed that when you boot the laptop the cpu fan spins up, then stops. Is this some kind of power saving feature? I have done alot of desktop work in the past, but this is the first time I've really messed with a laptop, so I wasnt sure if this is a normal function, or if there is something wrong with the heatsink/fan combo. Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated :)

At first glance I'd say it is normal. My Dell Inspiron 8500's fan does that too. I'd boot it up, the fan would go on for a sec or 2, then stops, starting again when I launch programs. So I'd say it's normal.
If it's getting really hot and ur fan isn't spinning, then you've got a problem lol.
