Audio setup for training room remodel

A nonprofit organization I have the pleasure of interning for is moving
to new space some time in 2005. The remodeling of this shared space
will include room for a 75 person training facility. This rectangular
room will be approximately twice as long as wide, from what I have been
told. They know my background and usually ask for my input on anything
technological.

But I, despite my screenname, know my limitations, and would like
opinions from RAP on this:

1. The room needs minimal acoustic treatment, since this is not a
recording studio. They will occassionally do audio and A/V recordings
of events in this space, though. So I am not thinking bass traps, but I
am thinking acoustical ceiling tiles, and several strategically placed
wall treatments.

2. They are budgeting for a lectern with a gooseneck microphone stand.
For the mic, I am thinking good ol' SM58. In space they have rented
over the last year, this is their setup.

3. Two microphones on tripod stands for audience questions. I have
brought my SM57 and even a cheap AKG in the past for them to use for
this purpose. For a permanent solution, I am thinking of SM58s again.

4. For solving the mixer/power amp problem, I am thinking of a powered
mixer, for ease of use. This is not equipment that will be used every
day, and while the staff is brilliant at what they do and have a Mensa
member and a magna cum laude, they are not into audiotechnology.
Simpler is better.

5. They want recording capabilities. There are many routes to go with
this, and I am honestly brain-frozen on this, as I received bad news
today and am in a fog. All suggestions would be helpful.

6. They might want a better wireless system than the UniPak
Audio-Technica system they already own.

7. Dealers who offer discounts to nonprofit organizations are welcome
to contact me off NG at info at 3rd-millennium-inc dot com and I will
respond accordingly.

8. Budget? Oh, I have no real idea what the budget is for this. I
estimate several thousand dollars for audio.

BTW, my screenname is MadTiger3000 on all other
audio/production/musical artist boards except for here and
alt.guitar.bass.

Thank you in advance.

The SM58 is a very fine mic, no need to look at anything else IMHO. The 57
can be a bit boomy/tubby for (male) voice

Sounds like you're wanting a powered mixer with a couple of lines out for
patching into a recording device. I have to assume there is no music
involved, just voice.

What are you recording to, what is the size of the room, what are the
speakers and their configuration?

Write yer post up with the answers to my questions, and repost over at
alt.audio.pro.live-sound, see what you get from that skilled crowd.
