Fifth of RAP Compilation

Hi All
I have been listening more carefully to some of the Fifth of RAP CD's lately
as time permits and I really like what I'm hearing overall, but some tracks
on some of the CD's I like better then others so far. One track that I
really like is track 8 on the 2nd disc recorded by Jim Gilliland titled
"Dance of The Lunatics" by the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble. I loved the
sound of the ensemble on that track so much that I ordered the CD titled
"All the Rage" that the group had recorded at the Blair School of Music
Recital Hall in Nashville. Produced by Butch Baldassari and conducted by
Paul Martin Zonn, it features Mandolin Orchestra music from 1897 to 1924.
Also I like tracks 9 and 10 on disc 1 recorded by Cary Carlan.

Cheers
Geoley

Geoley,

Thanks for reminding me about how good that last set was. Kind of a shame that
so many unsold sets are just sitting in a drawer here.

Paul Zonn was a genius, brilliant composer, monster horn player
(sax and clarinet...though he was a great on everything he touched,
mandolin was not his most accomplished instrument. His conducting was
largely arranging and diggin up tunes, at least that's how he described
it). The NME merely scratched the surface of his talents. Unfortunately,
he passed away in 2000, and I have no idea where his CDs are sold now.
But if you like those weird spaces somewhere between jazz and classical,
give one of his CDs a stab if you see one.

Why don't you just PayPal him, or send him a check? He goes under
the name "Rec.audio.pro". After all Harvey's hard work, he deserves a
few beers.

You can go here and use Paypal with the "buy it now" button:

http://www.recaudiopro.net

or you can click on RAP CD's, then set five, then order to get
snail-mail directions, which also show how to order "set four," the
RAP 10th Anniversary LP. Scott deserves a beer or two as well.

That URL hasn't worked the last 3 times I tried it.
Is it still in operation?

It was out of commission for a little while several months back,
but it got fixed, and it worked for me just now. Does it not work for
you now?

No, it does not. On Sunday morning ~7am PDT there is no DNS
listing for recaudiopro.net At least from my network POV.

Thank you. Those performances got almost no help from me. I just set up
and sat back. Oh yes, and I remembered to press the red button at the

Of course! I wouldn't expect to get 5 CD's for free now would I? :)) I just
wanted to ask him about instructions for ordering & payment.

Yeah, I tried to order through that link earlier today, but the link from
those pages via pre-filled PayPal form didn't work properly. I had to open a
new browser, login to PayPal there, and just use Harvey's Email to get the
payment working.

Maybe later. I think those 5 cd's will provide me enough entertainment for
the time being. They and the 20 country CD's that I got on my recent trip to
the States... I've only had time to listen to some of them. I really want to
give the CD's I buy a good listen, reading the lyrics and stuff.

I should say that the LP is still available. $10 with postage anywhere in
the US, or $7 if you order it along with the CD set. If you want it shipped
outside the US, let me know and I will let you know what it'll be.

I haven't been able to listen to all of mine yet as I have 2 bad disks. Any
way I can get them replaced? I didn't see any info on who to contact on the
web site?

BTW,

I still listen to the first set constantly, great stuff. Any way I can get
sets 2-4?

Thanks,

Jerry

Ladies and Gentlemen, Set 4 is Still Available, though you have to
play it on an old-fashioned Non-Compact Disc Player.

And didn't I just see a post offering one of the earlier sets?

WHAT??? Two discs are bad? This is the first I've heard about it. Which two
discs? Email me with the details and your address (at: hargerst@airmail.net),
and I'll send out replacement discs at once!!

The red button works just fine; "remembering to press it at the right time" is
the problem.

I'm really glad to hear that you liked the NME as much as you did - I
love their music. The concert that they did that night included one
other piece from All The Rage ("Texas Fox Trot"), but it also included
music from many other eras, including compositions of Lennon/McCartney,
Turlough O'Carolan, Duane Allman, and some traditional works. They
continue to tour, so watch for them to perform near you some time.

They have several other CDs that may be of interest, including a
wonderful Christmas CD on Sony/Columbia. (Note, I have no financial
interest here, nor any involvement in their CDs. I'm just a fan <g>.)

You're one of the few here who have had the chance to compare the
concert recording to the commercial release. One obvious difference, of
course, is that the touring ensemble is much smaller. Any thoughts on
the recording itself? I think the two sound quite different.
