Minolta DiMAGE Xt, released recently, has got to be the world's thinnest digital camera currently available. The built-in 3x non-extending optical zoom lens in an aluminum body of no more than 20mm thick is made possible by the implementation of a small prism just like SLR cameras. But unlike SLR which uses the prism for viewfinder, the Xt uses the prism for actual capturing of images. Just how good is this digital camera? Will wait and see.

Here's more details on the new DiMAGE Xt:

Bah, I'll stick to SLR's (film and digital). I'm more concerned with getting the best image possible from the widest range of lenses and filters available than being able to "impress" my friends with how thin my camera is.

Yep, but when is the industrialised world going to get behind technology where they process exposed film straight into digital pictures without the chemical spill used to make the negatives?

I like SLR too but when my SLR went up in smoke recently, yeah for real! $2500 worth, lenses went up for sale as well, I bought a Digital, they're good but you know cost heaps!

As long as the chemicals or whatever other method stop the reactivity of my film so it's stabilized, I don't give a rip what method is used.

I'm SLR for life, whether it's film or digital. I just don't have the $1700-$5000 hanging around for a good digital SLR or I'd have one of those now, too.

This is what I am waiting for, nice cheap SLR digital camera, with super high resolution, one day.

I have got a Kodak 4800 for now, have to get a nice marco lens for it soon.

Just so long as you're not holding your breath. I'd hate to read about you in the obituary tomorrow.

The Dimage X series were known for not so good images because of the weird lens that it uses. I have read about image quality issues on www.dpreview.com www.dcresource.com which are two well known sites that reviews digital cameras. I'd get something bigger than that like the canon digital elph, which I know would get better images.

Hey sometimes you just need a decent camera to take vacation pics or what not. You don't wanna lug around an SLR for that. That's prolly more what this camera is geared for. Looks damn sexy too!

This also is one heck of a thin card!

Its pretty cool, but the CardCam still has it beat in the thin department by about 5mm. I'm sure the Exilim is probably a much better camera though.
