The CMOS battery died on my TP600, so I replaced it. Now, when I boot,
I get the 173 / 163 errors, and it leads me into the setup screen with
OK and cancel buttons.

I've had a look around the web, and it seems I should just be able to
click OK and go in and reset the date and time. Unfortunately, this
does not seem to work - whichever I choose (ok or cancel) it just
takes me to an error screen with the 173 / 163 messages repeated and
the "refer to manual" picture.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on, and how I can get to reset the
date time and get this thing working again?

TIA,

Barney

Yeah - tried that. It doesn't matter whether I hold F1 down or not,
either way I get into the BIOS setup - it's just that after the initial
message and OK & Cancel buttons I get to an error screen with no chance
to set the teim and date.

Cheers,

Did you put in a NEW battery, or do you just think the battery is now good?

Yep, I used a new battery. It wasn't an official IBM part, just a
standard CR2032. I've checked it with a meter, and I'm getting a good 3V
out of it. Also, if I take the battery out I also get a 192 (no sys fan)
error - with the new battery I don't get this error, just the other two.

Thanks for the input though!
