I have a new Canon Powershot A95...nice camera. However, occasionally, when
I first turn it on, the LCD screen is blank. Has anyone had this
experience? Any advice?

Thanks...DG

Are you sure it's a problem and not a feature?

The camera remembers the last setting of the display. So if you turn the
display "off", then it will be that way when you turn the camera back
on.

Occasionally?

I have an A70 which is undergoing a slow death. One of its new symptoms
is occasionally when I turn it on, the LCD is blank. Now, this is not
due to setting the LCD to not come on. It just doesn't come on. Turning
it off and slightly tapping it on the side seems to fix it, along with
most other problems. For the moment. Something is loose inside.

Still under warranty? I'd thoroughly investigate it, make sure it indeed
is a problem. The Canon welcome screen should always appear when you
turn it on, even if it is set to be a blank LCD (to save power).

Are you sure the display theme has a setting that includes an image for
the display during power-on? Press the menu button, use the joystick to
move into the camera settings list, and poke around for a theme that
suits you. Even with a default theme, the power-on image can still be
set to nothing if you want.

My A85 does the same as you describe, it is indeed a feature.

That's not what my A75 does when the display is off.

If I turn off the display, and the camera is in camera mode (not
play-back), the display does not show the welcome screen nor does it
make the welcome sound. After the camera is powered up, it briefly shows
the current mode and settings on the display, then goes blank.

But if the camera is in play-back mode or the display is on, then it
will show the welcome screen and play the sound.

OK, I'm on the road, operating from memory. I do know something showed,
and mine doesn't all of the time. Worth a look.

As an A95 owner, I can't say I've experienced it - but then the
only time I turn my LCD off is when I turn it into the camera
body, in which case it comes back on automatically.

I have NEVER seen a blank screen on my A95 when powering on. I alweays use
the LCD for my snaps, so my setting is to display it always.

I would say it is most likely your display setting.

Thats the same way my A85 behaves.
But it would be nice if an A95 owner could describe actually what occurs
with an A95.
