IBM Thinkpad i Series question

I've got an older model IBM Thinkpad i Series that a friend gave me.

It looks like the AC adaptor is dying and I'd like to purchase another
one. The problem is is that I can't figure out what model i Series
this is. Doesn't say on the computer, don't have the software or
manual that came with it and my friend can't remember.

Anyone have any idea how you can tell what model a laptop is? I just
don't want to get the wrong adaptor and short out the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

WS

Simply check the tension wrote on the back of your adaptor and the parts
number to buy the same.
You don' need to know the model of your Thinkpad.

Actually he doesn't even need to know that. Most, if not all, ThinkPad
power supplies are interchangeable. The only major difference is the
wattage: 56 W vs 72 W. See
http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/accessories/battery.html

When in doubt, get the 72 W one, although the i Series would probably be
fine with the 56 W model, which is more compact.

sounds a bit like " You don't need to see his identification.
These are not the droids you're looking for." :)

Might be this pages helps you find out the model/type:

Turn it over and the model number is written on a label on the bottom.

Or, go into the BIOS on BOOT and the first screen will tell you the model
number, serial number, BIOS revision level, etc. of your machine.

Not true with the iSeries! There are quite a number of different
voltage and amp ratings not to mention tip&ring differences for them.

I highly suggest you look on the bottom of the LAPTOP for the info.
This way you are sure you get what you need. If you bought this system
used, there's a slim chance someone gave you the wrong one.
