Prima Pace analogue receiver

We are trying to tune an old analogue sky receiver (with card) in to the
Astra satellite in the UK without any success so far. Can anyone tell me
how to get the test screen up with the RC10 remote control. There's a
function and test button but neither brings the test screen up.

Also, if we buy a digital receiver second hand from ebay for instance, will
the sky card work in this? Pardon my ignorance but we have cable at home
and this is new to me. We're trying to set it up to use in the caravan when
we go to France

Many thanks

An old sky ANALOG viewing card will not decrypt Sky DIGITAL signals (& vice
versa) even if placed in a Sky Digibox.

The Sky DIGITAL channels ARE at 28E. You need a digital receiver to get them
The Sky ANALOG channels WERE at 19E. They no-longer broadcast much from there.

Both orbital positions have several Astra SES satellites 19E is the ASTRA 1
position and 28E ASTRA 2.

I have no idea what test screen you are referring to. I don't know what an RC10
remote control is.

You don't say what brand and model your receiver is, how it is connected, what
you are expecting to see, the steps you have already attempted and what you
see... etc etc... so its anyone's guess as to what you are actually doing.

A Sky card is mated to a Digibox when it is installed. To change the box it will
work in you need to call Sky and have the new box attached to the phone line.
Non premium channels do tend to work without the card being mated to a new
Digibox however.

Why not simply take the Digibox with you. If you don't have 240v in the caravan
a cheap inverter (Makes 240v ac from 12v dc) from somewhere like Maplin will be
cheaper than a even a second hand Digibox. You will still need a dish.

You will also need to consider how you locate the satellite when you relocate as
its not simply a matter of waving the dish in the general direction of South.
Other people on the campsite will probably have their dishes pointing elsewhere
to the satellites their national channels are available on.

Also the beams for BBC are very directional and you will need a larger and
larger dish the further South and East you go.

The BBC channels, and many others don't need a Sky DigiBox and card at all of
course and can be received with a cheap FTA digital receiver.

There are solutions to the problem but you need to do some research before you
part with any money.

IF you don't know what you are doing then money spent on E-Bay is probably
wasted. You might pay more by going to a dealer but at least it will work and
you'll have spoken to someone who knows what they are talking about. A good
dealer will probably have some mobile dishes that he can demonstrate too as this
is not an uncommon thing to want to do.
