I want to buy a hdtv tuner card to display hdtv content on my 23" apple
cinema lcd. Price is not a constraint. What is the best way to get
hdtv content to my lcd (I have a dell 3.2ghz xeon box in which I want
to plug in the card. It has a Nvidia 6600 GT inside it.) For sound I
would like to use my creative gigaworks speakers.

Thanks,

Thanks Jeff. Is there any use for waiting to get 1080p? Any inkling of
how much
more. I have a Audigy 4 on my machine, so of course it has all kinds of
imaginable
sound inputs a sound card can have on a pc. Should not be a problem.

Any comments on Fusion + 6800GT. Seems that fusion uses something
called
DxVA for using the graphics card's CPU power to decode MPEG-2...will it
really work? Seems that they want ATI Cards compared to Nvidia.
DVDs play flawlessly on my machine of course.

Thanks,

Can an 16ms refresh rate LCD even display 1080p?
Doesnt progressive scan mean that the refresh rate should be very high?
How high exactly should it be? What about the 12ms / 8ms refresh rate
LCDs? Can they display 1080p? Any particular recommendations on
LCDs for this purpose?

Is 1080p being used in US for any broadcasts yet?

Thanks,

The spec numbers 16/12/8 ms you reference is most likely Response
Time, not Refresh Rate (or time).

The response time indicates the time needed for each pixel to change
the brightness. With too slow response there can be a smearing effect
in movements.

The ability to receive a 1920x1080/60p depends on the interface
circuits. The data sheet should clarify what input formats can be
used.

Thanks Jeff.. I think I will take ur suggestion and go for the MDP-130.
I was just looking at the comcast HDTV tuner

http://www.comcast-ne.com/DCT5100_guide_April03.pdf

Do you know if its easy to use it with MDP-130. It seems that I would
need a Y/Pb/Pr.. connector on my hdtv tuner card, which is not there
on mdp-130. (Is it that MDP-130 has all the functionality inbuilt and
I really can bypass DCT5100 from comcast?)

Thanks,

DxVA is "DirectX Video Acceleration". It does work, but on my 2.4GHz
with a GeForce 5200 Ultra at 1024x768, it sometimes stutters, so you
would be in about the same boat (you have a faster processor and video
card, but need to move a lot more pixels).

NVidia actually does a better job than ATI, at least if you have the FX
series. There are some interlace decoding issues on ATI cards. I don't
know if your 6000GT has the same MPEG-2 acceleration helper that the FX
cards have or not, but if it does, it's the best card for the job.

No PCI card takes a component video input.

Both the MyHD and the Fusion have digital-cable tuners and can receive
all non-encrypted channels just by hooking up the cable input. All OTA
channels must not be encrypted over digital cable, but there are no rules
about anything else. Your best bet is to ask at AVS Forum in your local
HDTV area to see if anybody else is already using a similar card.
