Anyone have experience with the Comcast DVR?

Gurus,

I am just about to make the Hi-def switch and am trying to figure out
how to keep a good DVR solution. I currently use Replay TV which I know
is a bit outdated compared to TIvo, so I am thining of switching to the
Tivo Hi-Def DVR. While that is one solution, it's an expensive one, and
Comcast now offers a built in DVR that is capable of recording High-def
and also more than one channel at a time. Does anyone have any
experience with this comcast DVR? I figure for $10/month, it may be
worth it until the prices of the stand-alone boxes come down a bit more.

Any ideas?

Also, I'm looking at the JVC 52 D-ILA projection set. Seems like a good
choice from what I've read around here, but if you want to chime in on
that, it would be appreciated too.

Depends on which HD DVR your local Comcast system offers - could be
one of the Scientific Atlanta or one of the Motorola models. I recently
moved from a Comcast territory (Reston, VA) and they only offered the SA
8000 HD there. The SA 8000 HD is an older model and while it worked ok,
the recording software was crude compared to a Tivo. The newer SA 8300
HD is reportedly a lot better, but for example, while it was available
in the Arlington, VA county franchise, it was not yet available in Reston.

For $10/month, I would recommend you give the Comcast HD DVR a shot.
Until a HD Tivo DVR with two way cablecard slots with a big hard drive
is widely available and they get the kinks out and the price falls to a
reasonable level - say $300 or so - it is hard to justify buying a HD
Tivo when you can rent for $10/month. Of course, that is what the cable
companies are counting on.

I will second that. Works well for me (6412 dual tuner). Menus hang up for
a few seconds once in awhile, but over all I'd give it a "B". Records 2
channels concurrently well. Watch one record another works fine. Interface
is so-so but workable, remote is nothing to write home about (but the
Harmony makes up for it).

There's a standalone Hi-Def Tivo??
