Hi All:
I recently bought a RCA D27F750T CRT HDTV. It was all my budget could
swing. This will be #2 TV at some future point. I have Cox Cable with
their HDTV tuner box. Initially, I had the Cox Box connected via the
component video per the Cox instructions. Everything was fine as far as
picture. This TV has a 4:3 screen, so all non-HDTV was full screen and
HDTV had black lines top and bottom. I also have the Cox cable split
before the tuner box so I can tune the "lower" analog channels via the
TV's tuner. I also have my DVD recorder hooked in to Video 1 on the TV.
So I am pretty flexible on being able to watch one thing and record
another.
But my problem started when I tried hooking the Cox Box to the TV via a
DVI cable. That appeared to work at first but the end result was that
both the DVI connection and the component video connections BOTH give
me an incorrect picture on the RCA TV.
Now, the picture from all non-HDTV channels via component video are
sized wrong. A typical analog or digital non-HDTV channel is boxed in
on both sides. I get solid black lines across the top plus solid with
some mixed color lines on the side. When the picture clearly is in the
right aspect ratio (4:3), the "info" button on the TV says 16:9. If I
switch formats, the picture fills the screen top to bottom and I have
side black bars only but it is clearly vertically stretched. So, it
appears the TV has somehow gotten "inverted" on the format (4:3 vs.
16:9). The HDTV channels are just fine.
Interestingly, I get a perfectly fine, full screen 4:3 picture through
both the internal TV tuner and through the tuner on the DVD recorder on
all the analogue channels.
I have Cox coming out tomorrow to swap my tuner box, but something
tells me it may be the TV. I can find nothing on away to "reset" the
TV to factory defaults. Any body know how to do that? I may have
torqued something when I was messing with the DVII cable.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jess
