Solution
There's quite an advanced syncing software, SyncMate (http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html). It seems very convenient to me, you may try it to solve your problems, its freeware.

with newer ipods i believe if you upload all your music to an ipod and take it over to a friends house you can listen to it on the computer but in order to transfer songs from or to the computer you must sync the ipod to the itunes library of that computer which requires you to delete the itunes library on the ipod. i cant find a way to drag and drop the songs on to the hard drive without syncing to this new itunes library.
