In case this helps you!

Well we had a cable guy come to fie the blinking out of channels, so i asked
him how to get the closed caption on the tv, and would believe it, he could
not and did not know how, go figure. So i did some research and found that
within the cable box there is a hidden
menu with the CC on or off. It works great now.

My brother has bought a Philips 32"HDTV and has the Bright House HDTV
service also. We have turned on the Closed Caption but it is not working,
any suggestions ? I have read somewhere that some of the cable boxes can
be
defective, could that be it. One thing I haven't tried yet, is a dvd.

Thanks

Wow, that's very interesting! Could you tell us what brand
your cable box is and how you get the hidden menu--just in
case I end up with a similar problem with Cablevision.
Thanx, ...tonyC

Comcast CATV boxes also but it is not that difficult to access, just need to
go to the setup menu, via the on screen menu, using the remote. Of course,
most of the installers and servicers, do not leave an instruction manual nor
inform the customers of these functions.

If you are with BrightHouse cable, just hit "settings" on the remote, then use the down arrow key to highlight "Caption Off/On/On wiht Mute". Use the right arrow key to change the setting to "On". Hit the "Select" key to save your setting and viola! You have CC. Understand that with HDTV the captioning is NOT done by the TV as with regular TV. With HDTV, the CC has to come from whomever is sending you the signal. The CC has to be included in the signal sent to the TV.
