Hi all, Merry Christmas.
The family is still asleep so I was watching a Nova program I recorded on a
T-W Cable Digital Box, the 8000HD. I used channel 6 to record, which is an
analog. The picture is pretty fuzzy. So I looked through the program guide,
and came to discover that our public TV also puts out a digital broadcast,
and T-W does carry that on a higher number channel, in the 900s along with
HDTV programs. It was much sharper so in future I'll only watch and record
public TV using their digital broadcast. Seems to me that analog programs
just don't come out well on digital cable boxes. Whereas you with analog
cable TV broadcasts on an analog TV, you get a pretty good picture that
we've got used to over the years. In our area ABC and Public TV now have
digital broadcasts; NBC FOX and CBS are yet to come out with digital
broadcasts.
Do you find also that analog channels don't show that well on a digital
cable box?
One other thing: Until recently I had Dish's 811 HD receiver and using an
attic antenna, I could watch the Public TV's digital broadcast using that
receiver. The picture was sharper than what I see now through Cable. That's
the problem with Cable. There is so much convenience of having the entire
lineup in one box (we don't have local channels on Dish in our area) but the
picture is JUST NOT as good as with Dish. On the other hand, Showtime on
demand (they call it i-Control) is a great hit at our home. Can't get Sho HD
on demand, though...shucks.
