can someone please give me a quick run down on how to rip your DVDs onto your computer and compressing them into AVI or divx?

ive downloaded a trial of divx and didnt figure it out. ive tried dvdshrink, which works fine, but its only useful for backing up a disc and putting it back on disc. im interested in making a compressed file so i can store on my HDD.

i know this sounds pretty obvious, but ive checked the forums and cant figure it out.

Use AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 to rip to your hard drive.
Then CloneDVD mobile to convert to the format you want.

A mate use to rip & burn DVD's with a 1GHz P3, your XP 2600 should be fine.

I haven't used CloneDVD mobile myself, but I have used AnyDVD & CloneDVD for years with no problems.
I have gone from .avi/mpeg to DVD using Convert to DVD from http://www.vso-software.fr/
