I own a SA 8000HD with a 160GB hdd. I was wondering if anyone has found a
way to download the recorded movies/shows on the DVR HDD to an
alternate device. There are 2 Firewire ports on the back. Can they be
utilized to d/l to an alternate device such as a linux based system?
Thanks

The explorer 8000 need a software to activate the firewire port. And
this software is provided by Scientific atlanta. And doesn't seem to
be done yet!

Your local cable company has to download the latest software to enable
the ability to archive recordings to an alternative device.

Time Warner (in upstate New York) has provided this function on the
SA8300HD that I have - so I assume that it is also enabled for those
using the SA8000HD.

Call and ask your provider.
