I have had the Dish 811 receiver for a few months. I noticed the Dish
HD channels did not look as good as I expected. I could switch to the
off-air UHF antenna that was connected directly to the Sony internal
tuner. The HD looked much better using the UHF.

I called a Dish Tech and they had me go into the 811 installation
menu, HD set-up. Sure enough it was set to 750 and they had me move
it to 1080 and click Save. Now it looks much better. Even the Dish
regular channels look improved. The 811 and also the Sony XBR
enhances the picture quality other than HD.

I had set the TV to 1080 when I first receive it. Oh well learn
something new everyday.

How do you rate DISH overall?

I like Dish Network okl. I have had it for about 6 years. I called
and they came out upgraded with a new Dish 500 for free. That's the
20" single dish with up to 3 LNB's. A week later the 811 HD receivers
came in so another Dish man came out and upgraded the old receiver.
I really like this new receiver. You press the program info key and
its instant, no waiting. Its really fast if you like to flow across
the channels. Quarter size picture your watching as you scan the
menu.

I have read that in non HD areas that Dish is working hard to get the
basic 5 networks uplinked. I waited but with pro-football coming up
next week I spent under $200 for a 8 bow tie uhf antenna up 30 feet
with a 29 db pre-amp. Works better than first thought, pulling in
signals from 80 miles away.

Forgot to mention this 811 puts the UHF analog/ digital channels down
below channel 100 in the Dish menu lineup.
