I am looking at copying some movies of DVD's to my computer all I want on my computer is The movie and none of the special features. I was wondering if there is a program that is easy to use so all I have to do is put the DVD in and tell it to copy the movie to my computer is there such a program and if so what is it and where could I get it. I know of Gordian Knot and DVD decrypter but I can't really get my head around it as all I can get it to do is get the picture with no sound. Any help woith this will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you want to burn them onto a regular cd.

If you want to make them 700mb you arn't going to just copy them off the cd. You are going to need to encode them into a diff format like .avi using a divx, xvid, etc codec/encoder. I haven't dabbled much in that but I'm sure google could tell you all about it :)

rip from dvd then convert to say avi i can get pretty decent quality, kinda like watching a vhs tape.

sometimes though the dubbing will be slightly off.

I think it is a little better than vhs. Most divx movies you download are dvd rips, you have to have seen one of those at one point or another.

But with DVD-Rs at around 50 cents a piece or less it seems silly to not get the better quality when backing up movies...

Yea I know, I haven't used divx in a long time. DVD is just the way to go. I accept nothing less than DD EX or DTS ES, lol.

for that size, as said above, you will need to convert to a different file format. I'd reccomend Xvid, kinda the freeware version of DivX. It's slightly better too. I have **cough** downloaded **cough** some movies which was in Xvid format and the quality is great. The file sizes were about 700-800Mb

so lemme get this straight. You need a ripper to get the movie off teh dvd, and then you need a codec to change the format of the movie file?

Curiosity was framed. Stupidity killed the cat.
(i know it has nothing to do with comps, but i think its funny ^^")

guy what your saying is making no sense, like someone stated up above... you can buy 100 blank DVDs for aronud 35$ and you can get what like 100 blank cd-rs for like 23$ or so maybe alittle less.. the point is this, You wasting a [-peep-] load of time to burn to a crappy quality disc, when you can burn the entire movie in about 50 minutes and have exact DVD quality. why the hell would you wanna take around freggin 2 hrs and then through all that time watch a quality thats just as [-peep-] as VHS? lol

idn man you might wanna rethink what your saying. Also you obviously have a dvd BURNER correct? i mean that is around 50$ at newegg..

i think you should just reformatt your thinking alittle and i think the best solution is obvious here.
