Wierd black icons

Ok I;m not sure whether this is a driver problem but here we go. Suddenly for no apparent reason my computer has decided to display those small icons such as the favourites menu and on the toolbar, and all those listed when you go to Start-programs as black squares instead.

What is going on? It just seems to have happened out of nowhere!!

I have a K6-2 500 with 64mb ram and an Elsa Erazor III TNT 2 Pro video card all in an HP Pavillion case (I upgraded from an HP Pavillion Pentium II 233)

I'm at a loss to explain this wierd phenomenon but there we go it is an HP which isn't exactly designed with upgrades in mind.

Any help welcomed!!!

I can't explain the problem but I know a way to solve this
just download "tweak ui" at http/www.zdnet.co.uk/software/windows/top99/sw4.html
install it and look at the repair tab there you'll find the option to repair your icon cache worked for me.

Its a driver problem.
Although, I have only seen this problem with ATI cards.
Update your drivers.
