How to Change the Notification Centre Icon on your MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro comes with a large variety of features and with every single update the roster of features seems to be ever increasing. While some of these features such as split-screen, screen record, etc. are very useful tools, some of the others serve the purpose of personalizing your computer. One of these latter features includes the ability to change your notification centre icon which lies at the extreme top right corner of your desktop screen. So if you want to change this icon follow the steps below:

Step 1
Select an image which will serve as the new notification centre icon and save it as a 'PDF File'. We suggest that you pick something simple since it will be displayed in small size and picking a complex multicoloured image does not help the purpose.

Step 2
Open a 'Finder Window' and click on the ‘Go’ tab on the overhead menu.

Step 3
Select the ‘Go to Folder’ option in the drop down menu.

Step 4
In the dialog box which appears enter the following path: “/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer/Contents/Resources/” and hit the ‘Go’ button.

Step 5
A folder titled ‘Resources’ should open up where there will be a file titled ‘menuitemNormal.pdf’.

Step 6
Rename the file created in step 1 to ‘menuitemNormal.pdf’ and copy paste it onto the resources folder. Make sure you choose the‘Replace’ option when prompted instead of ‘Keep Both’.

Step 7
Enter your ‘Administrator Id’ and ‘Password’ when prompted.

Step 8
Now open Terminal from your Launchpad folder and enter the following code, 'killall SystemUIServer' and then hit enter.


Once you have performed these steps correctly your notification centre icon should have changed to whatever image you had chosen.

Make sure to save the original ‘menuitemNormal.pdf’ file backed up in case you need it.
