How to Crop, Rotate or Trim Images and Video Files on MacBook Pro Without Opening the App

The advancement of technology has brought us to the point where we can edit images and videos without even opening them. The latest OS for Mac, Mojave, comes with a new feature known as Quick Actions. These are found on the Finder page upon selecting an image or video, and using these one can crop, rotate or trim an image or a video.

Follow these steps below and you should be able to use these options on your Macbook Pro:

Step 1
Open a folder and select any image or a video. On the right side of the Finder page a preview section will open up. Usually this section contains details about the file such as size, date created, and a small preview if it’s an image.

Step 2
If you are using Mojave then at the bottom of the preview section there will be three Quick Actions buttons using which the selected file(s) can be edited within the Finder page itself. If an image is selected then the Quick Action buttons will provide options to rotate the image, and the second option ‘Mark Up' will allow you to edit the image further. If a video is selected then the Quick actions buttons will include ‘Rotate’ and ‘Trim’. By clicking on these you can rotate or trim the selected video in a separate dialog box.

Step 3
In both the cases there will be a third Quick Actions button, ‘More’. Clicking on this will open a separate dialog box where several other options can be added to the Quick Actions in the Finder page. Once added, these Quick Actions can also be performed on an image or video within having to open them.
