In order to upgrade the Leviathan Axe, you will need the Frozen Flames. Now you can get the 5 out of 6 frozen flames required by going through the main story of God of War. You will get each frozen flame by defeating the bosses as each boss drops a frozen flame when defeated. For the last one, you will get it if you exchange the Niflheim’s Chilling Mist for the Frozen Flame. You can do this by going through the region where you get the treasures in center chamber of the workshop in Niflheim. Once you have gotten it from the chamber, simply head towards Brok or Sindri’s shop and carry out the trade. Moreover, you will also unlock the Worthy trophy once you have collected all 6 Frozen Flames. Below is the brief description of every Leviathan Axe upgrade:

Upgrade 1:
The first upgrades come as a default with the Leviathan Axe meaning you will not have to do anything to get this upgrade; the Leviathan Axe will already have the first upgrade when you get it. At this point, the Axe has only ten strength.

Upgrade 2:
The second upgrade of the Leviathan Axe needs you to do something before you get it. You will get the second upgrade of the axe once you have escaped from the Ruins. Just head to Brok’s shop after escaping from ruins and then upgrade your Leviathan Axe to level 2. At the second upgrade, your Leviathan Axe will have 25 strength.

Upgrade 3:
You will get the third upgrade of the Leviathan Axe at your first trip to the Foothills. Once you get there, you will then need to defeat the Ogre, once you defeat him, he will drop the Frozen Flame. Get it and then head to Brok’s shop or Sindri’s to get the third upgrade. This upgrade will give you Leviathan Axe a strength of 40.

Upgrade 4:
You will have the fourth upgrade of the Leviathan Axe when you visit the Heart of the Mountain. When you are there, you will then have to defeat the Jarn Fotr, and then this boss will drop a Frozen Flame. Go ahead and take that Frozen Flame. And then you will be able to upgrade your Leviathan Axe to level 4 by heading to Brok’s or Sindri’s shop. With the upgrade 4, the Axe will have a strength of 55.

Upgrade 5:
You will get the fifth upgrade of the Leviathan Axe when you pay a visit to the Thamur’s Corpse. There, you will be faced with Magni and Modi. Now you need to defeat both Magni and Modi, and then you will get a Frozen Flame. With the Frozen Flame in your hand, go to either Brok’s shot of Sindri’s shop and then upgrade the Axe to Level 5. The fifth upgrade of the Leviathan Axe will give it an overall strength of 70.

Upgrade 6:
The sixth upgrade of the Leviathan Axe is different from the above three upgrades. For this upgrade, you will need 5000 Mist Echoes. To get these, you will need to open the Legendary Chest in the Center Chamber of Nilfheim. Once you have the Mist Echoes, head to Sindri or Brok’s shop and then upgrade the Axe to level 6. With the sixth upgrade of the Axe, it will get an overall strength of 85.

Blades of Chaos:

A time will come in the game when Kratos will realise that he needs some variety in the weapons that he uses. At that time, the Blades of Chaos will be added to the game. You will need Chaos Flame and Muspelheim’s Ranging Inferno to upgrade the Blades of Chaos. There are a lot of complexities associated with the Blades of Chaos especially with their upgrades. But with this guide, you will be able to understand the upgrading process of the Blades of Chaos.

Upgrade 1:
The first upgrade of the Blades of Chaos comes as default with the weapon. This means that you will not have to do anything specific to get this upgrade. It will be embedded in the Blades of Chaos when you get them. The first upgrade of the Blades of Chaos has just 5 Runic.

Upgrade 2:
The second upgrade of the Blades of Chaos will require you to defeat the Mattugr Helson. In order to defeat this boss, you will first need to visit the Helheim, once you are there, keep playing the story mode and you will be faced with the Mattugr. Defeat him and he will drop a Chaos Flame, pick it up hand then head to the shop of Brok or Sindri and then carry on with the upgrade of the Blades of Chaos. The Runic for the second upgrade is 10.

Upgrade 3:
For this upgrade, you will need to do two things. Firstly, you will have to collect the Black Rune Stone. Once done, then you will have to defeat the Trolls that are found in the Tyr’s Vault. After defeating them, you will get the Chaos Flame. Once you have it, go to the shop of either Sindri or Brok and then carry out the process of upgrade. You will get the overall 20 Runic for the third upgrade.

Upgrade 4:
You will have to defeat the Hel-Traveler to get this upgrade. You can only defeat the Hel-Traveler when you are escaping from the Helheim. Once you are faced with this boss, defeat him and he will drop a Chaos Flame. Get it and then head towards Sindri’s or Brok’s shop to upgrade the Blades of Chaos. The Runic for this upgrade is 35.

Upgrade 5:
This is the final upgrade. And this upgrade is different than the three upgrades above. To get the fifth upgrade of the Blades of Chaos, you will need to get the Raging Inferno of Muspelheim. And to get it, you will need to defeat the Valkyrie Gondul who is found at the top of the Muspelheim. Once you defeat it, you will get the Raging Inferno. And once you have the Raging Inferno, you can then go to the shop of either Brok or Sindri and then you can upgrade your Blades of Chaos to level 5. The Blades of Chaos will have a 50 Runic after the fifth upgrade.

The best thing about God of War is that the developers have given attention to small details of the game as well. This is the reason that you can also upgrade the quiver of Atreus. The quiver can be upgraded up to 4 levels and it gets different abilities with each upgrade. Below is a short description of each upgrade of the quiver.

Upgrade 1:
Just like all weapons, the first upgrade of the quiver comes as default. So you will not have to worry about purchasing it as it will come with the bow and quiver.

Upgrade 2:
The second upgrade of the quiver will be available once you arrive at the Lake of Nine. The Hacksilver cost for the second upgrade for the quiver is just 5000. With the second upgrade of the quiver, the recharge time of the arrows of Talon Bow will be reduced.

Upgrade 3:
The third upgrade of the quiver will be available when you return to the Mountain Summit. The Hacksilver cost for the third upgrade of the quiver is 25,000. With the third upgrade, the recharge time of the arrows of Talon Bow will be reduced further.

Upgrade 4:
The fourth upgrade of the quiver will be available after the Second Water Drop. The Hacksilver cost for the upgrade of the quiver is 45,000. Moreover, the upgrade will increase the capacity of the arrows in the quiver to 4.
