Google analytics privacy issues? Everything You Need to Know

Google Analytics is the most used web analytics tool that you can find on the internet. While it might not be everybody's cup of tea and some prefer other tools, the service is popular for a reason. But, as with everything Google related, there are also privacy issues present. The main one is when you visit sites that use Google Analytics, everything you do on the website is being tracked.

Web owners who use Google Analytics have some options to tweak those issues (like disable tracking for certain users or websites), but as you can’t really rely on them to do that, you’ll have to secure your privacy by yourself with the help of some tools. As this is Google related, you can always go to your account settings and change some things there, but since this is about Google Analytics specifically, here’s what you need to do to secure your privacy.

    ■ There is a browser extension which stops Google Analytics from tracking your website activity, so we’re gonna use that. Open your favorite browser and in the address bar type tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and press Enter.

    ■ Click on Get Google Analytics Opt-out browser Add-on.

    ■ If you’re using Google Chrome, click on + Add to Chrome button, confirm the action and you’re all set.

    ■ If you’re not using Chrome, click on Accept and install. Just confirm the action when a small window pops-up and you’re all done.

    ■ Now you have a browser extension that will stop Google Analytics tracking. However, be aware that this only works for Google Analytics so it won’t stop gathering information via other means.
