7. Depending on your OS boot device, your system will reboot and follow up to desktop GUI within 30seconds to a few minutes. If you have enabled password during log-in, it will take a little longer (until you input your password and hit enter).

If you seem to have a laptop that is unresponsive to your commands, has frozen up during a task or have made an error with driver installation. The easy way out is to perform a reboot. However you can’t gain access to the Start menu. The following will help you out.

8. On your keyboard, tap Ctrl + Alt + Del together.

9. A new screen will appear.

10. At the bottom right corner you should see a red button with the power icon on it and an arrow to its right.

11. Click on the arrow and it should bring up two options. Shut down and Restart.

13. Your laptop should now perform a restart.

Another, more aggressive method (considering that keyboard input is impossible) to reboot your Windows 7 laptop is to press and hold down the power button until your laptop shuts off. You can press
the power button to power up the laptop but an error will come up requesting to either to:
Boot to Safe mode (two more options with networking and command prompt).
or
Start Windows Normally.

You can choose the last option to get into desktop GUI.

If you happen to face an issue with your laptop locking up requiring you to reboot, you may want to update your BIOS with the latest revision, increase your ram, make sure your drivers are in order, that your HDD isn’t on its way out and that your OS isn’t corrupted.
