Fix a Freezing Roku with Hard and Soft Reset

Packed in a box that can fit in your palm, Roku has the abilities to replace TV Cable. Though it is a great device, it has its own flaws. It sometimes freezes and other times it will not start properly.
When these problems arise, the best solution is to do the soft reset. If that doesn’t work, then you can resort to hard reset which is the factory settings reset. Here are the steps of how to do both of them:

Soft Reset
When a soft reset is conducted in Roku, it simply restarts it without losing settings or data.
The following are the steps to follow when restarting from the remote.

Press The Following Buttons:
■Rewind two times
■Home five times
■Fast Forward two times
■Up one time

The above procedures should comfortably work on all Roku models.
You can also reset from the Menus using the newer models such as ultra, 4 and premier.
■Go to the home screen, select Settings > System > Power > System restart

Using The Buttons Of The Older Models You:
■Locate the reset button on the bottom or the back of the machine. A paper-clip may be required to press the reset button in some models.
■Press and then release the button after one second. This should automatically reset the device.
If all the above methods don’t work, you might need to unplug the power cord for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

Hard Reset
Hard reset will automatically reset the factory settings to default after clearing all the settings. This is the only alternative if the soft reset doesn’t result to anything meaningful.
In new models like the ultra, 4 and premier, you do the following depending on the device you are using. Go to the home screen and select:
■Settings > Factory reset > Factory reset > Yes
■Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset

In The Older Models Where You Use The Buttons:
Unplug the cables leaving only the power cord.
Hold and press the reset button on the bottom or the back of your device for around 25 seconds. A paper clip may be required in order to press the button in some models.
While still holding the reset button, unplug? The power cord from the back of the device.
Let go of the reset button and then reconnect all the cords back to the unit.
This will lead to the factory reset, Roku should guide you through the set-up procedure.
