Even though strongly suggested, using Face ID in your iPhone is optional. There’s no effect on iPhone X’s performance whether you’ve set up Face ID or using the phone without it.

Nevertheless, for testing or educational purposes, if you want to use your iPhone X without Face ID, here’s how it can be done:
Unlock iPhone X
Swipe up the Gesture Bar and type the passcode in the next window. This unlocks the phone and takes you to the Home screen. Apple recommends that even if you don’t use Face ID, make sure to secure your phone with a strong, hard-to-guess passcode. However, iPhone can be used normally without a passcode as well.
Purchase an App
Tap Purchase, provide your Apple account’s password, tap Sign In, and proceed with the payment process. Since Face ID is not set up, you must provide your account’s password to make the purchase. This step could be automated with Face ID.

Purchase an App
- ■Get to the app’s purchase page
Launch App Store, search for the app you want to buy, and tap its name. This opens the app’s page from where you can make a purchase with or without your Face ID.
■Attempt to purchase the app
Tap the amount the app is available for. This pops up a box at the bottom with the Purchase button.
■Buy the app
Tap Purchase, provide your Apple account’s password, tap Sign In, and proceed with the payment process. Since Face ID is not set up, you must provide your account’s password to make the purchase. This step could be automated with Face ID.
