The Samsung Galaxy Note8, like all smartphones and computers, is susceptible to freezing and crashing. This is usually indicative of some software issue and, most times, is not a cause for panic.
The classical solution of removing the battery won’t work here since the Galaxy Note8’s battery is non-removable. No need to worry, in this guide we will walk you through the steps to take if your phone has frozen and become unresponsive.
1. Do a Force Reset
Hold the Volume Down key and Power key simultaneously (usually 7 second or so) until the phone reboots. If your phone becomes unresponsive, this should be your first option. Freezing may just be caused by a temporary internal conflict and can be resolved by a simple force reset. No data will be lost, however, any apps that were open will be closed. If your phone continues to crash frequently after performing a force reset then the issue may be caused by a conflict with a third-party app. If this is the case move on to step two below.
2. Boot in safe mode
a.Ensure that your device off
b.Press and hold the Power button. The device will turn on and the model name (Galaxy Note8) will screen will appear.
c.When the SAMSUNG logo screen appears, release the Power button.
d.Immediately after releasing the power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
e.When you see the word Safe Mode appear, release the Volume Down key.
Booting in safe mode allows you to turn on your phone with all third-party apps disabled. This way you can easily uninstall the app or apps that may potentially be causing your phone to freeze. If your Note8 still continues to freeze then you are left with your final option, Step 3.
3. Perform a Hard Reset
Before you proceed with the hard reset, it is highly recommended that you back up all of your important data on a computer, hard drive or external SD card.
a. Ensure the device is turned off
b. Press and hold the Bixby key and the Volume up key, then press and hold the Power key.
c. When the Android mascot appears, release all keys. You should see “Installing system update” for approximately 30-60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu appears.
d. Use the Volume down key to navigate through the recovery menu and highlight “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” and press the Power key to select. The phone will begin the Factory reset.
e. When the Factory reset is complete, press the Power key to select “Reboot system now”. The phone will restart with all data reset.
A hard reset is your last but most powerful option and is almost sure to resolve any software related issues. This will restore your phone to the original factory settings and will erase all your personal data on the internal storage including downloaded apps, pictures, music, downloads, contacts etc. The process is irreversible and the information cannot be recovered, so it is very important to back up all your personal information before performing a hard reset.
