How to fix a frozen Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 was a solid phone but did have a tendency to crash or freeze quite a bit. Without a removable battery, forcing a frozen phone to reboot needs a special technique. One I’m about to share. So if you want to fix a frozen Samsung Galaxy S6, here’s what to do.

Fix a frozen Samsung Galaxy S6

1. Hold down the volume down and power buttons until the phone reboots.
2. This should take 7-8 seconds under normal circumstances but can occasionally take longer. Just hold the buttons down until the reboot completes.

Samsung actually tells you what to do in a Help Advice Tip, but if your S6 is frozen that won’t help you much. They say ‘If your device is unresponsive, press and hold the Power key and the Volume down key simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it.’

If your Galaxy S6 freezes often, check running apps, free memory, check for software updates and consider booting into safe mode. While the S6 did have a few issues when it was first released, subsequent Android and Samsung firmware updates tackled the worst of them. Chances are, a frequently freezing S6 is down to an incompatible app or setting.

Check Tom’s Guide for booting a Galaxy S6 into safe mode and troubleshooting or, as a last resort, performing a factory reset on a Samsung Galaxy S6. Safe mode will allow you to troubleshoot your phone without any apps interfering and a factory reset will wipe the device to factory defaults. Both can help restore the S6 to fully working condition.
