If you like to play with your phones, add and remove apps and experiment with settings, you will have needed a hard reboot at some point. Whether it was a glitching app, incorrect setting or something else, knowing how to force a reboot on the Samsung Galaxy S7 is key. Here’s how.
Ever since Samsung stopped including removable batteries we have had to figure out other ways to force a reboot on Galaxy phones. Fortunately, there is a relatively easy way to do it.
If your S7 or S7 Edge freezes, give it a minute to sort itself out. Sometimes it’s just a CPU or RAM lock which the phone can recover from. The Galaxy S7 also has an auto reboot feature that can initiate when the software thinks it needs a restart.
Force a reboot on the Samsung Galaxy S7
You can either force a reboot or perform a hard reset. We would suggest doing a reboot first and only performing a hard reset of that doesn’t work.
1. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons at the same time for a few seconds.
2. The S7 should shut down and reboot.
3. Once rebooted check the app or action that caused the freeze and address it.
If your handset cannot reboot normally it may boot into safe mode. From here, you need to use the volume keys to navigate the menu and power key to make a selection.
Hard reset a Galaxy S7
A hard reset is the option of last resort. It will not only reboot the phone but will also perform a factory reset at the same time. While this might fix whatever caused your phone to freeze, it will also wipe all your data too. Be aware of that if you’re considering a hard reset!
1. Power off the phone.
2. Press and hold the Power, Volume up and Home buttons to access recovery mode.
3. Use Volume keys to navigate the menu and the Power button to select the menu.
4. Select factory reset.
5. Leave the phone to do its thing and reboot.
