For your laptop to work properly, you need to have the correct drivers installed. A driver is a piece of software that allows your laptop to communicate with certain hardware. For example, you need the appropriate driver to let webcam work on your laptop. To ensure that you download the right drivers for your computer, follow the steps below.

Step 1: You need the model number for your laptop. You can find this a variety of ways. If you still have your owner’s manual, find it in there. It is also on the computer itself. If you look on the bottom of your laptop, it is listed along with the serial number. You can also go to your Start menu, select Accessories and click on System Information. A bunch of information about your laptop is displayed including the model number.

Step 2: Identify the hardware manufacturer and find their support website online. Almost every device manufacturer has a website that can help you with all sorts of information.

Step 3: Go to the hardware manufacturer’s site and locate the Download section. It may have a different name, such as Driver Downloads or Software Downloads. Find a website’s homepage first and then navigate to the section where you can download.

Step 4: Search the download section for the correct driver that you need. You should be able to verify it is the correct driver based upon your laptop’s model number.

Step 5: Download the needed driver. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver properly.

With the correct downloaded drivers, the hardware on your laptop will now work properly. Make sure that you are downloading the correct drivers. Depending on the manufacturer’s website, you should be able to choose the correct files based on your laptop’s model number.
