How to Post to Tumblr

Tumblr is a popular blogging site that allows users to create their own pages and themes. Once you’ve signed up for Tumblr, you will want to start posting some of your own content to set yourself apart from the other blogs. Tumblr allows you to customize your post and allow replies so that you can converse with other followers on your post.

Step 1: To create an account, visit tumblr.com and select the “Sign up” option. You will be asked to create a unique blog name. Next to your blog name, there will be a small arrow. Click the arrow to choose which blog you will post to. The dialogue box that appears is where you will create and alter the content for this post.

Step 2: In the dialogue box, you'll see a gear icon in the top right corner of the screen. Select the gear to add the content source, set a unique URL, set a post date, and allow replies. This will alter the settings for this particular post, but not all posts.

Step 3: Type a title for your post in the text box. You also have a toolbar below to change the font, add hyperlinks, add photos, and customize your post. The “B” icon will bold the selected text; the “i” will italicize it, and the “S” will strikethrough the text. The infinity loop will add a hyperlink and the loop with the line through it will remove a hyperlink.

Next, you have the option to add numbering or bullets to your text. The last few options are related to adding photos and other media add-ons. You can add tags or labels to your post. To post to social media, you can select the bird icon to post to Twitter, and the “f” icon to post to Facebook.

Step 4: When you are finished creating your post, you can select the blue “Post” button. Now you’ve shared your first Tumblr post to the world!
