If you receive any audio or video messages on your iPhone or iPad the messages are set to auto-delete after you have viewed the messages.

Even though you cannot keep the audio and video messages that you received and listened/viewed on your Apple device forever, you can extend the time duration after when the messages are deleted automatically. The audio and video messages that you receive can be kept on your Apple iOS 8 device for maximum 30 days before they are removed automatically.

Here is how you can configure your iOS 8 device to keep your audio and video messages for up to 30 days after you have listened/viewed them.

  1. Turn on your iPhone (iOS 8) by pressing the Sleep/Wake button.
  2. To unlock the device, swipe your finger to the right on the screen (screen with the slide to unlock text).

  3. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  4. On the opened Settings interface, tap Messages.

  5. Once the Messages window opens up, ensure that the iMessage toggle button is enabled from the top.
  6. On the same interface, under the AUDIO MESSAGES section, tap Expire.

  7. When the Expire window appears, tap to select the After 30 Days option to keep your audio messages saved at least for 30 days on your iPhone after you have listened to them.
