How To Set Up 2-Factor Authentication for Dropbox

The two-factor authentication is an optional tool but one which is very important, especially if you want to protect your files and documents in your Dropbox account. This tool allows you to use not only your password, but another verification code sent to your mobile phone. Through this, not anyone can log in to your account unless they enter that unique code even if they know your password. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set up that 2-factor authentication on your Dropbox account.

1. First, you need to log in to your Dropbox account. On your homepage, click your name found on the top right of the page. A drop down menu will appear. Click "Settings."

4. Another pop-up box will appear asking how you want to receive your security codes. You can choose between a text message or a mobile app. For this tutorial, I use the text message. Tick which one you prefer and click "Next."

5. Choosing the text message requires that you enter your phone number. Choose your country of residence and type your phone number on the space.

6. Wait for the verification number on your phone. Once your receive it, enter the code on the space and click "Next." Just in case you didn't receive a message, click "Didn't receive a code" and they will re-send a code to you.

7. As an added security, Dropbox will ask you an alternate phone number just in case you lost your phone. After you enter the alternate number and click "Next," a pop-up box which confirms the activation of the two-factor authentication will appear. It also contains another code which serves as an emergency backup code in case you lost both phones. Write down or take a picture of the code and keep it.
