Receive Emails When The App Store Posts Its Free App of the Week

Every week, Apple designates a new app to be the official App of the Week – and they release it as a free download. Here’s how you can get an email alert whenever a new app becomes the free App of the Week.

Step 1: Go to ifttt.com and sign up for a free account. IFTTT, or If This Then That, helps users setup multi-stage alerts so that when a certain action or event is detected, another action is triggered. In this case, you’re going to use IFTTT to setup a Twitter alert that triggers an email.

Step 2: Once you’re set up, log into your account. Create a new task.

Step 3: For the ‘This’ element of your new task, choose Twitter and then select New Tweet.

Step 4: Now, you need to tell IFTTT what to check first. So simply type #FreeAppoftheWeek from:AppStore into the search bar. IFTTT will monitor hashtags that are tweeted by the App Store, searching for your key App of the Week hashtag.

Step 5: For the ‘That’ element of your new task, simply select e-mail. You can also opt to get alerts via text message.

Recap: Want to be notified when a new App of the Week is free to download? Use the easy steps listed above to set up an App of the Week email alert. IFTTT is your secret weapon: you’ll soon be the first to know when an exciting new app is released for free download.
