How to Request a Recommendation from Another LinkedIn User

If an employer you have worked for is one of your connections on LinkedIn, you can ask them to provide you with a recommendation for your profile. Although most of the time your employers would recommend you for your skills and your work on their own, a request to the employers for a recommendation may drive them to do so (and it looks great on your profile!).

When you request any of your connections to recommend you on LinkedIn, your request is sent to the target connection as an inbox message. The best part is that you do not have to type a single word in the message, and all of the fields are automatically populated with relevant values and/or descriptions. At your end, you are only required to specify the connection from whom you are requesting a recommendation, and the skills for which you want your connection to recommend you.

Here is how you can request a recommendation on LinkedIn:

■Sign-in to your LinkedIn account using any of your favorite web browsers.
■On your profile’s Home page, hover mouse to the Account & Settings option from the top-right corner. (Icon with your profile picture.)
■From the displayed list, click the Privacy and Settings option.
