Configure Winamp Player for Multimedia Keyboard Support

Almost all multimedia keyboards that are nowadays available in the market are plug and play. This means that no manual intervention is required in order to configure the keyboards so that their multimedia keys can be used to control the installed multimedia applications such as Winamp.

The above scenario is as per the ideal situations. The things may differ if you have any older version of operating system installed on your computer, or your hardware and multimedia keyboard is quite old. With that kind of configuration, if you install and try to use the latest version of Winamp player on the computer, it is likely that you would face several compatibility issues. The mapping of multimedia keyboard keys with the latest version of Winamp player is one example of such compatibility issue.

Since Winamp player is present in the media player market since quite a long time, even its latest versions are designed and developed in such a way so that the application can become backward compatible. This further means that the latest version of the Winamp player can be manually configured to support the legacy multimedia keyboard keys if the keyboard is not automatically configured to control the Winamp player installed on your computer.

After following the instructions given in this tutorial, you will be able to configure your instance of Winamp player to get mapped with the multimedia keys of the multimedia keyboard connected to your computer.

Here is what you need to do:

■Log on to the computer on which you want to configure the instance of Winamp player to support multimedia keys of the multimedia keyboard.

■Initialize the Winamp player application by double-clicking its icon.
