Hi, I need atleast these specs. The lighter the better too. 15 would be fine/preferable but I've found some stuff eg. Compaq CQ71-317EA http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF25b/321957-321957-3329742-89318-89318-4004498.html which has this resolution, decentish specs..but is a 17incher at £460

I also found a Dell Inpiron 1545 which was customised for 408£, but I dont want that coz its gonna take 20 days to get here.

Would really appreciate any other ideas. I want it for no more than £500 including delivery (great british pounds) ...which is about 750$. But prices are alot cheaper in the US for equivalent specs right?

Is there any other ones that I could consider?

1_What is your budget?
£490/750$...preferably 490£ since i guess a laptop worth 750$ from an american site will cost alot more in the UK..

2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
14-17. 15 is preferable

3_What screen resolution do you want?
atleast 1600x900+

4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
it only needs to manage my needs well , which isn't much

5_How much battery life do you need?
atleast 4hours

6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
No games

7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, watching movies, Etc.)
watching movies / handling postgresql databases over up to 15gig big on a very regular basis / player poker / webbrowsing / preferably ubuntu operating system and windows running inside it virtualised

8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
anything more than 150gig should be fine.

9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them.
Found something like this from Dell which isn't in production anymore it seems the inspiron 1545 upgraded to 1600x900..but they dont have the resolution upgrade anymore.

10_How long do you want to keep your laptop?
atleast 1 year

11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
a dvd writer would be nice, but am willing to pass on this if it drops the price inside my budget

12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to \buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Dell are going to take ridiculously long to deliver, so preferably not them. About 20 days aparently. need it much sooner than that. i've heard bad things about Acer's build quality unless others can tell me otherwise..? Something as lightweight as possible, which is why I am going to prefer a 15incher.

13_What country do you live in?
United Kingdom

14_Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I need to make sure its inside the budget of 500£ AT THE VERY MOST, 480 460 is much better. Even though this works out to 750$ish I think I need to find a UK retailer coz from what ive seen it will be way more expensive otherwise.

How would a 14inch on this resolution be? I could handle a 15inch with this res fine. I dont mind getting a 17 with this res if its going to be lighter than the 15inch counterpart though. SOmething tells me there wont be so much of a choice though...

All of these are 17inch and all of them have the resolution I want of 1600x900. It dissapoints me that I cant get something like my Dell 15incher which had a 1600x900 aswell which was only 408. What do people recommend out of these 4 laptops.
