I need a gaming laptop, cause I move from place to place (So no "Buy a desktop, they're way better" comments here)
So I am debating between buying an
Alienware M17X
i7-3740 3.7 ghz
12gbs 1600 Mhz RAM
GTX 660m (Would have them upgrade in June to 680m)
500 GB Hard drive
accidental warranty
$1973.00

or
Cyberpower's
Xplorer X7-8150
i7-3740 3.7 ghz
16 gb 1600 Mhz RAM
GTX 680m
1tb hard drive
120 Solidstate hard drive
However there is just a simple year warranty no accidental
$2125.00
I have heard that Cyberpower is unreliable, anyone know about this possible personal experience?

My fiancée's brother has dell with accidental warranty and he loves it (dell makes Alienware)

He called upon it twice already, no hassle, tech came to his location. I think for laptop it makes worth the purchase just for warranty cuz it's with you everywhere.

I didn't look at the types of laptops they offer, but i5 CPU is great for gaming and i7 you don't need for games

Ignore pretty much anything Gussrtk said, please.

First, Dell makes very very bad products - their version of the operating system is filled with bloatware, and in the case of alienware, they sacrifice parts in trade for shiny lights. Basically nobody will recommend a dell product if they've experienced both it and another product.

Second, you absolutely need an i7 for gaming... in a laptop. In a desktop, the only difference between an i5 and an i7 is hyperthreading. In a laptop, the difference is that i7's are quad cores vs dual-core i5's, and the i7's are much faster - they resemble low end desktop i5's.

With the alienware, are you able to upgrade to a 680m? Are you positive of that? The reason I ask is because, a lot of the time, graphics cards are soldered onto the motherboard, and since alienware is notorious for cutting corners everwhere they can...

Both those laptops are going overkill on the RAM, by far... but in terms of raw stats, the cyberpower is way better. (And the SSD will make it feel MILES faster. There's no excuse for not having at least a small SSD in a laptop nowadays - it makes basic computing feel as fast as on a desktop machine.)

That being said, I have a couple questions. First, why those two options? I would look at Sager and Origin, and possibly at Falcon. They all make incredible computers geared towards enthusiasts. (Vs. alienware, which targets itself at those lacking experience with computers and parts - usually gamers who don't know and don't care - the sort of people who never look at an options menu and then complain when they game looks bad because it's running in its default 800x600 resolution.)

Second... why not a desktop? I move around a lot as well, between college, home, and friends' places, and I build myself a small form factor computer to game on. It's smaller than my backpack, has handles, is easily light enough to carry... Yeah, hauling the monitor around sucks, but I much prefer it to having to deal with a laptop and the weak parts therein.

This guy knows his stuff and if you want a custom laptop go with sager, they make amazing stuff. But I agree have you thought about a desktop? They make smaller cases or cases with handles so they can be transported more easily plus the girls will dig your arms if you carry it around all the time.

Actually I'm a very experienced computerate. Or what ever word there is for it, and I've bought from top notch Alien-ware's to top notch Origin, and even Cyber-powers. I've used them all for at least a year now and I would recommended the Alien-ware over any of them, I even tested it. I used the exact same components with Alien-ware Aurora, Origin Genesis, and a Cyber-power Mega Special II and I've found almost no differences but Alien-ware was the cheapest and has better looking computers in my perspective and they have customizable lights same with Origin Genesis but it was hundreds more than Alien-ware. I also have never had a problem with Dell Tech Support or Origin Tech Support, so I would recommend the Alien-ware over anything, next would be origin but for more price. I just wanted to make my point. Thank you. And I've upgraded my Alien-ware twice now so you're wrong with that statement.

P.S Falcon is too pricey for their performance I also have a Falcon North-West Mach-V Not worth the performance for price.

The fact that you keep on saying "Alien-ware" instead of "Alienware" is incredibly annoying. Just saying.
