It does not go through the cable box, it would go to the TV directly. If the TV does not have the correct inputs you will need to get adapters from HDMI to whatever the TV does have. Or a better idea is to get a newer TV instead of spending money on adapters. A used LCD TV with HDMI connections you can find for under $100 for a 32" size.
