Microphone & sound card problem

So I bought a microphone a few days ago and a sound card, because the microphone apparently has a single aux cord.
So I used the sound card and plugged it in via USB and connected my microphone to it. When I clicked to check and listen to my mic, the microphone from my computer was on but the one I ordered didn't work.
I'm not an expert in this and I don't know what kind of settings I should post to figure out my problem, but if you could reply with what settings to send I will.

Sounds like you bought an external sound card - which brand & model is it? Generally you will need to install drivers for your sound card first - these may be available to download online if they didn't come with it.

Once you've installed the right drivers, you may need to go into your audio settings and change the input from the inbuilt computer mic to the external sound card. What kind of connection has the microphone got - 3.5mm jack plug, 6.35mm jack or XLR? (google those if you're not familiar with them).
