My father in law has a polaroid LCD TV. He purchased an LG soundbar that worked for about 2 days then stopped working. He returned it thinking he got a bad one and that new one worked for about a week. He went out and bought a vizio soundbar and that one worked for about a week as well. He does not have RCA output but does have 3.5 mm out so that is what he is using. He has replaced the 3.5 mm cord to see if that was the issue. Is his TV burning out these sound bars??

Solution
The 3.5mm jack on the TV is probably a headphone output. That has a much higher output than the soundbars may be designed to take and can overload the input. This is especially likely if he has been using the TV remote to control volume rather than the soundbar remote and the volume of the soundbar has been left fairly low.
