I've just bought a smart TV, do I need an hdmi cable for the picture to be in HD even though I'm not connecting a sky box or blue Ray player? Will the picture be in HD straight away or standard def?

Solution
If you are using only the smart apps or the TV tuner then there is nothing to connect an HDMI cable to.
If the content you are watching is in HD the TV will show it in HD. If it is in SD then the TV will upscale it to HD but will usually indicate that the source isn't HD. The app itself may have some settings to send you HD.

What are you trying to connect to your Smart TV? If your TV only has HDMI input then you will certainly need to hook your device with an HDMI cable to the TV. If your smart TV can accept wireless display and your device can connect wirelessly to your tV, then you won't need the HDMI cable.

On that note, please mention your TV's make and model as well as the device you want to hook up to your TV.
