Solved! my letters on the keyboard either don't work or they type the wrong letter.

my keyboard recently started doing this after not being used for a while, and the keys feel like their functions have shifted into different areas on the keyboard. It's not the Num lock problem, and i have tried a lot of different ways to try and fix this but it seems that nothing works. i don't want to give up on trying and having to pay to get this fixed. i can only use and external keyboard to type this on an on-screen keyboard. I'm starting to think the problem is to do with the actual keyboard its self.

Solution
could be drivers.
keyboard
keyboard connection
the connection port.

this a laptop?
you can try uninstalling the keyboard ribbon cleaning the surfaces then reconnect.
can try replacing with a new keyboard.
can try reinstalling drivers.

this happened to my laptop and i concluded that the motherboard port is bad now. which would mean replacing the motherboard.

Solution
If the problem is the actual keyboard itself, then you probably will have to pay to get it fixed - and it does sound like a problem with the keyboard since an external one works.

Try reseating the cable and let Windows reinstall the driver for it (remove the generic driver in Device Manager, then scan for hardware changes under "Action" or restart the computer).
