I have a lot of family videos that I have recorded onto DVD in .vob format using a VHS to DVD recorder. They need some editing so Ive spent a month purchasing, downloading and uninstalling many editing programs, searching web for answers about formatting options and burning discs that won't play correctly or the burn was 'unsuccessful'. I've had only one that worked.
I'm frustrated and exhausted from working on this everyday for hours with no headway.
Besides getting them edited and producing a playable disc, I also need to make duplicate sets for family members. For this I'm going to try a DVD duplicator.

Here's my questions:

1. Is the .vob format the correct one to play on laptops and stand alone DVD players? If not, what is?

2. Suggestions on programs? I've tried... Shotcut, Filmora, Videopad and others I can't even remember. Plus, I've used several video convertors trying to get a format that will work.

2. Is there any device that will burn a disc from a thumb drive. It takes hours to burn on laptop and I can't edit other discs until it's finished.

I'm normally pretty good at figuring out new things to do with my computer but this has got me beat. Please help before I rip off all my clothes and run around the yard screaming like a mad woman!

Thanking you in advance,
Mad Woman

VOB definitely not the right format. For playing on a standard DVD player you are better off using MPG (MPEG) files. For a computer, MP4 files are better, however the MPG (MPEG) files will work on a computer as well.

Converting the files you already have can be done more easily that trying to remake them all. I like "Format Factory" for converting files. Great program, simple to use. For playing the files on computer, try "VLC Media Player". And both can be obtained and used freely. (bonus points)

While you could probably plug the thumb drive in the computer and then burn it from that drive to the DVD, it is still going to use computer resources. And I have to say if it is taking that long, there is either something wrong, the...

While you could probably plug the thumb drive in the computer and then burn it from that drive to the DVD, it is still going to use computer resources. And I have to say if it is taking that long, there is either something wrong, the computer doesn't have enough RAM, you need updates, etc. I can burn a 4.7 GB full DVD in minutes. If it is taking longer than say 10 -15 min (and that is long) to burn a full DVD of this size (space) it is going way to slow for you.
