Solved! Acer Aspire Windows 7 Black Screen

So probably back in 2016, my dad was trying to install Norton on my Mum's Acer Aspire Timeline X computer, and it was a disk, but I realised he was installing it on the wrong account so I went to log out and go to the right account when something happened- I don't really remember now, but I do remember that when we tried to turn it on again it came up with a blue screen with a message that said something about it was corrupted. Now this year, 2018, if I turn it on it has the acer start up screen but then it goes to a black screen with just a little white dash in the top left corner (it's not flashing if that helps at all) and if you press any keys it starts to beep. The stuff on this computer is really important to me, so I would like to know how to fix this issue, and my dad won't let me take it to a repair shop because it's too expensive. Please help! Ask your Dad to stretch the budget to a caddy with USB leads so you can remove the hard disk form the laptop and put it in the caddy. Then you can transfer all your data and any other important files to a PC.

Once those data are safely stored, you can put the hard disk back in and start fixing the problem.

So will that mean that all the data on the computer is stored? And it will be like the same computer when it is fixed? And how will I fix the problem

Once the data are in a safe place, there are steps you can try and you could do them now without backing up your files but it puts those files at risk.

Start off with this one. Switch on and mash the Function 8 key until you see a screen offering some Safe Mode options. Select Command with Network. Command is a black DOS form with a prompt that says C:\. After that C:\, type
chkdsk c: /r
then hit the Enter key.

That process will take some while - hours, sometime. It looks for corrupted sectors or clusters of sectors on the hard disk and the /r switch is their to fix those disk errors.

When that ends and after the ensuing restart it causes, let it go through it's usual starting routine. If it's fine, good - you fixed it.

If not, power down and up again, doing the same F8 thing and Command with Network. This time, at C:\ type
sfc/ scannow
and hit Enter. Another lengthy process will find and fix any missing or corrupted Windows files.

More later if those both fail but it won't get any easier.
