Hi all!

I have been shopping for a video editing laptop, and I've recently come across the Acer Nitro 5, which includes a Core i5 8300H and a GTX 1050 ti. However, I also found the Huawei Matebook D, which includes an AMD Ryzen R5 2500u with integrated RX Vega 8 graphics. My question is: which would be better for video editing? I like the build of the Huawei better, but is there enough power to edit 1080p video and edit RAW files smoothly?

Since I can get either for $650, I want to make sure that I am making the correct choice for my needs!

Thanks so much!

For just video editing you don't need much of a graphics card. Vega 8 will be fine for that.

If you wanted to do any gaming the 1050ti would be best, with the 1050 close behind, and the Vega 8 much slower than the both of them. The mobile version of the 1050ti is something like 175% faster than Vega 8.

Well, the 8300H is the stronger CPU here. Both CPUs are 4 core 8 thread parts, but the Intel chip clocks higher. So I'm thinking the Nitro would give you better performance as UserBench rates it as 30% faster. That isn't to say that the Ryzen chip is a slouch. It should be fairly capable.

Honestly, I'd go with the Nitro. Unless you can get the Huawei with more RAM than the Nitro I don't see much reason to get it over the Nitro.

Okay! Now how important are graphics? 1.) Would the 1050 ti be that much better than the 1050? 2.) Would Vega 8 graphics be fine for what I'm doing?

Hmm, alright thanks! I think I'm going to stick with the Nitro 5, but I do like that Huawei!
