My friend has a Dell inspiron 5758 i7 5500U 16GB 1T HDD

someone gave her an SSD X 400 M.2 2280 256GB OPAL SANDISC

If we find the right internal adapter kit can we have this M.2 drive inside the laptop as the main drive?

I found this as my first example.

Any help on finding the right components to make this work (if it even can work) most welcome. thx

You could just pick up an second SSD/ODD caddy like this one. However you will need to keep in mind the height of the ODD in your existing Inspiron 5758. The caddy can be found in 9.5mm and 12.7mm thickness/heights. I'm sure it's 9.5mm for your unit.

The reason I brought the ODD caddy into the picture is due to the fact that you can retain the mechanical drive for the purpose of storage/media/backup yet have the speed of an SSD and ODD's are pretty much useless with everything available off the www.

Thanks for the idea.
I guess we also need to make sure the M.2 drive will work normally? It has some non standard connectors on it. but Im hoping the adaptor kit will make it seem like a regular SSD for boot purposes and all of that.
