Question about leaving laptop on

I have a 17" Toshiba Satellite P875-S7200 which I have started leaving plugged in and on all the time (unless it's storming).

I have been putting it in sleep mode, instead of shutting it down. Since I leave it plugged in I assume this does not affect the battery. But is this ok for the laptop itself?

I recently read an article about shutting your computer down and rebooting all the time, which stated to do that during the warranty period so that if something is going to go wrong, hopefully it will do so during that time. But after that, it said to leave your computer on and in sleep or hibernation mode.

Do those reading this feel this is correct, and would the same apply for a laptop?

Solution
Good question.

I use sleep all the time on my desktop.
I get faster sleep/wake.

On the laptop, I also use sleep with the laptop connected to power.
This part, I have no certain knowledge about.
It might depend on the particular laptop.
